Joshua
The Book of Joshua contains important themes for Christians to take to heart. Above all, it illustrates that God keeps His promises. In keeping with His divine timing, He led His people into the Promised Land that He said would be given to the descendants of Abraham. Within the text are great truths about our God: His faithfulness, His leadership, His ability to care for and defend His people, His righteousness, His omniscience, and His willingness to uphold the faithful and punish the disobedient.
The intriguing narrative sections of the book tell how the Promised Land was conquered, and the portions concerning land allotments record the keeping of God’s promises. God’s word to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was fulfilled, along with His promises to Joshua, Israel as a nation, and Zelophehad’s daughters.
God’s miraculous power is seen in Israel’s victories over the inhabitants of the land. We must remember that His love and protection for His people of that time are available for those who follow Him even today.
Joshua’s faithfulness provides an example for godly leaders, and every Christian can benefit from the illustrations of obedience versus disobedience.
